Archetypes…Hero? Warrior? Innocent?

Archetype…Which one defines you the most?

I have always been an advocate on learning how we function and process and also learning about those around you. When you know how you process information and what your emotional responses are to situations you have better control over what happens in your life. Learning about how those around you can have the same benefit and help build relationships and create better communication. Carl Jung is known for his work with archetypes (along with many great ideas) and although this may seem like an ancient philosophy it is still relevant to the modern day work force.

Knowing what archetype you portray, such as the warrior, magician or innocent, can help you learn how your thoughts and actions tie together in everyday life or in particular situations. These archetype can be applied to the business world, and the 8 archetypes of leadership listed at HBR.org are worth recognizing. There is no right or wrong archetype, we are all individuals and unique but learning about them all can help communicate better. Most of us take on different archetypes depending on the situation but being able to be aware can give you an advantage. The archetype is still used very much in the world of business and can be useful in such things as training, process development, branding image and leadership.

Using archetypes can be very beneficial in life and work. Archetypes help define character traits that can shed light on people’s behaviors, attitudes, and emotions. We are not one archetype as we take on different ones depending on the situation. Archetypes are also used for branding a business image and in leadership.

Below is a link on why archetypes are still useful in the workplace.

So which archetype do you identity with the most? For me it is the coach!

“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart.

Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”

-Carl Jung
